[Alden gets into the car, but the camera remains outside. The woman cannot be seen by the camera] Woman: And the Bates Motel? Alden: I'm going to sell my remaining shares. Woman: And then you can come into business with me. Alden: Have you sorted the old sea fort out? Woman: Yes, as far as anybody else is concerned, you will be living on it. Alden: And when they've brought my shares, I'll put them out of business. Woman: What are we calling our new venture? Alden: Fairlawns... The Fairlawns Motel. [Theme tune plays and fades out] Alden: When can we view the property? Woman: Right away. You won't be missed at the Motel will you? Alden: No, they won't notice. Oh, Michelle? Woman: Yes? Alden: They must not find out what we are really up to. If they find out that we are setting up in opposition to Bates then our venture will be doomed. Woman: Understood. [The car pulls away. Back at the Motel it is getting dark. In reception Dai is creeping about dressed in his work clothes.] Alison: What are you doing in here dressed like that, you know they don't like it. Dai: Yeah, I want to talk to you. Alison: Now? Dai: Yeah, I've got to. Alison: What's so important it can't wait? Dai: Look Alison, I've got to go to the pub. It's a darts match see, tournament. And, you know, I did promise 'em. Alison: Well is that all? Dai: Well yeah. Alison: And what's happened to your voice? Dai: What do you mean? Alison: Your accent? [Dai suddenly remembers to put on his acting voice] Dai: Ah well, you see boyo, isn't it down the coalmine? [The camera lingers, Alison looks uneasy. The office door opens, Marcus walks into reception. He takes one look at Dai and walks straight over] Alison [in a whisper to Marcus]: You missed your cue! Marcus: Umm.. Dai, what are you doing in here in your work clothes? Dai: Ah, I came to have a word with Miss Alison boyo. Marcus: Was it on Motel business. Alison [interrupting]: Er, yes it was! Marcus: Well get it over with and get out of here. Dai: Ok then. [Davros enters reception followed by a Dalek. They trundle through straight into the office] Marcus: Now what is he up to? Alison: He's got an appointment with Tina. [On the other side of Kings Oak Michelle's car pulls up. Michelle gets out] Michelle: Hurry up. Alden: I can't open the door! Hang on, I've got it. [Alden gets out] Alden: So this is now our property. Michelle: A luxury marina complex overlooking the sea, with Motel, casino, offices and moorings for boats. It looks better in daylight. Alden: And it's all ours! Michelle: We're going to have to do some serious business in order to recoup the money. Alden: Long term leasing on the offices, perhaps with moorings thrown in? Michelle: For a good price of course. Alden: Luxury offices overlooking the sea? We'll really going to cash in! Michelle: We'll have to utilise as much of the space as possible. Alden: I see the gardens are fully landscaped. Michelle: I saw to it. After all, I've been developing this for two years before you brought in on the project. There's a significant amount of money invested in the project; it will succeed at all costs! Alden: I'll be ready to give you the rest of my money by the end of the week. I've got to sell my shares. Michelle: To whom? Alden: I thought either Marcus or Tina. I'll get a good price as whoever gets the shares will get the balance of power in the Motel. Michelle: What about your wife? She has half of your original share. Alden: Tina has control of that. It's long and complicated. Michelle: Very well. Alden: I'd better get back. Could you drop me off on the main road by Bates? Michelle: Yes. [Back at the Motel in security Dave is watching a vaguely familiar TV programme. Dai walks in] Dai: What are you watching? Dave: I don't know. It looks very familiar. You know that looks just like this office. Dai: It does doesn't it. What do the TV listings say? [Dave pulls out a newspaper and flicks through it] Dave: 6.35pm, Bates Motel. More Midlands motel magic. Alden betrays the Motel whilst Dave is caught watching himself on TV. Dai: Doesn't sound familiar does it? Dave: No. I must admit I don't watch as much TV since Large departed this earth. Dai: Departed this earth? I though the producer sacked him and he was now trying to launch himself as a pop star. Dave: Shut up! Dai: So boyo, when are we going to go looking for the Kings Oak treasure. I've got all the equipment in my shed. Miss Alison was going to give me dinner, but I've told her I've gone to the pub instead. Dave: We'll give it a couple of hours yet. I'll meet you at your shed about 11pm. I can't get out of here until the night staff come on. [In the Motel bar Aidan and Stephen are having a drink] Stephen: So there I was, having a splendid time and Marcus rescues me! Aidan: But I thought Brownlow was keeping you all prisoner? Stephen: It wasn't as bad as all that. Aidan: But you said Brownlow kept you locked up in a dark room. Stephen: Yeah, but anything's better than this place. Mad guests, stupid power struggles, incompetent staff, and no ambition. I want to go places! Aidan: You'll be lucky. You're stuck here, just like the rest of us. [Alden walks in, spots Stephen and walks over] Alden: Stephen, I'd like a word with you in my office. Finish your drink and come along immediately. [Alden walks out of the bar in a hurry] Aidan: Blimey, what have you done wrong? Stephen [finishing his drink]: I don't know, but I'm about to find out. [Stephen hurries out of the bar and along to Aldens office. He knocks on the door and then enters] Alden: Sit down. [Stephen begins to shut the door. The handle wobbles and then falls off in Stephens hand. Stephen panics and tries to unsucessfuly shut the door. Stephen gives up and sits down. The door swings wide open.] Alden: I'm glad you shut the door. What I'm about to tell you is confidential. Stephen: Is it? Alden: What does ambition mean to you? Stephen: Getting out of the Bates Motel. Alden: Good answer. I like your style Stephen; I want to offer you a job. Stephen: What as? Alden: Before I tell you, you must promise not to tell anyone. What I'm about to tell you is confidential. Stephen: Understood. [Through the door a man can be seen pulling a camera along the corridor. He looks through the door, realises what's up and then shuts the door] Alden: I'm selling my share of the Bates Motel. The ship is sinking, and I'm not going down with it. I'm in the process buying into a new business. It's a luxury marina complex. Stephen: That new building on the other side of Kings Oak? The one by the sea? Alden: Well yeah. I'd feel abit stupid running a marina 3 miles inland! It's mainly a motel, but it has offices and a casino as well. Stephen: Wow! Alden: It's a big business venture. We may even expand the marina side of the business. Stephen: Where do I fit in? Alden: I want to employ you as the Motel manager. Stephen: Me? Alden: Yes, you. You will also be responsible for other aspects of the venture. Michelle and I may own the business, but you will help to run the show... So, are you interested? Stephen: Yes! Yes, indeed. When can I start? Alden: Next week. Stephen: What about my contract with Bates? Alden: Don't worry. I'm still a director here. As such I have the power to hire and fire. Stephen? Stephen: Yes? Alden: Your sacked! Stephen: Excellent! Alden: I'll phone you with the details of your new job. Stephen: Will do. Alden: See you next week! [Stephen gets up and walks out of the room. Alden presses a button on the intercom] Alison [over the intercom]: Yes? Alden: Can you send Tina and Marcus to my room please. Alison: OK. [Alden sits back in his chair] Alden [to himself]: Now to tell them the sad news. That I'm leaving the Motel and going into retirement. Or so they think. [Alden laughs madly] [In the main office] Tina: Did Alden say what he wanted? Alison: No. He just requested that you and Marcus go to his office straight away. Marcus: Better humour him. [Marcus and Tina leave the office. Meanwhile in the kitchens Pete is cooking. Chuck is checking the menu] Pete: I tell you laddie, something is up! Chuck: What do you mean? Pete: I mean that something is about to happen. Chuck: How do you know? Pete: Och laddie, well I am the seventh son of a seventh son. Chuck: So? Pete: It means I have the gift of second sight. Chuck: You haven't been using the security cameras for immoral purposes again have you? Pete: No! It means I can see the future. Chuck: And what can you see? Pete: [in a mysterious voice] I can see many things! I can see trouble ahead... Chuck: But whilst there's moonlight and love and ro.. Pete [interrupting]: Are you taking this seriously? Chuck: Yes, carry on. Pete: Well, I can see Alden departing the Motel, I can see immanent trouble, and I can see staff leaving the Motel. Chuck: And the long-range forecast? Pete: We're all doomed. Doomed! [Back in Alden's office, Marcus and Tina have arrived. The door handle has mysteriously been mended] Alden: Sit down. [Marcus and Tina sit] Alden: I've been a shareholder at this Motel for nearly 20 years, and I was the Managing Director for most of that time. Tina: Only after you forced my Mother to leave the Motel. Alden: [carrying on] Until recently I remained Managing Director, that is until Tina conned her way into my position. Now I am reduced to a minority shareholder that can be outvoted. My wife holds half of my shares and she's given control of them to Tina. Marcus: So? Alden: So, I'm selling up and leaving. [Tina punches the air] Tina: YES! Marcus: Selling to whom? Alden: To whoever will pay the price. Marcus: You forget, company rules state that if you are selling shares in the Motel then those shares must be offered to the other shareholders first. The shares will then be equally divided between them in order to maintain the status quo. Tina: [grinning] That effectively means Marcus and I. Marcus: Eh? What about Aldens wife? Tina: Mother is having a contract drawn up giving me those shares. Alden: What? Why? Marcus: Oh, didn't you know? Alden: Know what? Marcus: Suki is a future regeneration of Tina's Mother. Alden: [shocked] What? Tina: That's right. [Tina laughs] That makes you my step-Father. [Alden bangs his head on the desk repeatedly] Marcus: Excuse me old chap, would you mind not damaging the office furniture? Tina: So, when you sell up that will mean that I will own 70% of the Motel, and Marcus will own 30%. Marcus: That's exactly the proportion of shares we had when I first brought into the Motel. Tina: The pre-Alden status quo has been restored. I feel like a drink! Marcus: And don't let Neil draw up the contacts this time! Last time you let him near them we ended up with shares totalling 110% of the Motel! Tina: Mother should be in the bar now. I'll go and have a drink. Alden: [looking despondent] Before you go, you didn't say if you will buy the shares? Tina: Oh, I think you can assume that we'll buy the shares. I've always wanted you out of this Motel. One way or another I knew I would get my way. When you locked me in that lunatic asylum I plotted my revenge. I returned to this Motel and now I have removed you. Once you've sold up I never want to see you at this Motel again! [Tina leaves the room] Marcus: What are you going to do about Suki. Alden: I won't divorce her, I can't afford it. She'd take half of everything I own. Marcus: Tina's not going to hang about getting those papers drawn up. Alden: Now I've gone, you know she'll turn on you next. Marcus: I don't think so. When I brought into this Motel I saved it from financial ruin. Tina may dislike me but she'll do as her Mother instructs, and Lorrill has no grudge against me. [Marcus gets up] Marcus: Better be going old chap, it's been unpleasant knowing you. You forced your way into this Motel, you forced yourself into the position of Managing Director and now you've been forced out of that post and finally out of the Motel. [Marcus looks around] Marcus: Yes, I think I'll have this office. [Marcus leaves] [Meanwhile in reception, Michelle walks in, looks around and walks over to the reception desk] Michelle: Can I speak to Brigadier Nathan Rogers please? Alison: Certainly, one moment. [Alison picks up the phone and dials. Meanwhile Michelle looks around the reception. Alden walks in and looks shocked. Alden rushes up to Michelle] Alden: [in a panic] What are you doing here? Michelle: Relax, I've merely come to have a look around.. And to gain some custom. If we're going to be running a Motel then we'll need guests. Alden: Keep your voice down. [The Brigadier enters] Brigadier: Where's the filly who wanted to speak to me? Michelle: Ah, hello Brigadier. You don't know me, but I'd like a word. Brigadier: Well, I suppose a brief one wouldn't hurt what! Michelle: Outside then. [They walk outside] Michelle: I'd like to put a business proposition to you, but not here. Brigadier: Well my girl, where do you want to put your proposition? Michelle: I'll pick you up from here at 10am tomorrow morning. It will be to your considerable advantage. Brigadier: Very well. [Time passes; a clock is heard striking 11. In the garden Dave and Dai are creeping about] Dave: According to the map, it's here. Start digging. Dai: I can't see boyo. Can I have some light? Dave: No. If you have some light then we'll be seen. Now start digging! [Dai begins to dig a deep hole. Dave stands around watching. The hole gets deeper.] Dai: I've got something. Dave: What is it? Dai: It's a box. Dave: A treasure chest! Dai: Well give me a hand. [Dave jumps into the hold and begins to lift out what looks like a chest of somesort.] Dai: It's not very big. You can't get much in there. Dave: Shut up and give me a hand. [They lift the chest out of the hole] Dave: Dai, now fill the hole up. Dai: OK then boyo. [Dai begins to fill the hole whilst Dave tries to open the box] Dave: I can't see how to open it. Dai: Look boyo, there's no rush. We've got the treasure, so let's lock it up in your office for the night. Dave: I agree, I don't have a key to open this box. We'll have to force it in the morning. [Dave hands the chest to Dai. Dai holds it. Suddenly that box makes a clicking noise and the lid flips open] Dave: You must have activated something! [Inside the chest a glowing light can be seen] Dai: What do I do! Dave: Put the box down! [Dai hastily puts the box down] Dave: My God, what is that thing? Dai: It's glowing. [Dai bends down to pick the glowing object up] Dave: Don't do it. NO!!!!!! Dai: AARRRRGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! [Theme tune fades in]
