[Picture fades in to a telephone ringing on a cardboard looking reception desk. The camera pulls out to reveal a tall middle aged red-headed woman walking over to the phone. A sign in the background reads "Bates Motel". The woman anwsers the phone] Woman: Hello, Bates Motel. [Theme tune plays and fades out] Woman: Yes, we do have rooms free. Yes, OK then, thank you.] [The woman puts the phone down. Two strangely familier young women enter reception and walk over to the desk] Woman: Ah Tina, how did Alison get on then? Tina: Well Mother, she's had a good first day. Alison: Yes, I've really enjoyed myself. Tina's Mother: Excellent. You will have a good future here young Alison. Alison: I hope so. Tina's Mother: And you young Tina. In a few years time you will step into my shoes. You will own and run this Motel. In twenty years time you will be running this Motel. I'm sure you have great plans for it. Alison: That would be...oh.... 1997? Tina: What's special about 1997? Tina's Mother: Oh, nothing really. [Back in the Bates Motel 1997 in Tina's office, Tina and Alison are talking about old times] Tina: Do you realise that next week it will be exactly 20 years since you started work here? Alison: Yes. Do you remember that conversation we had on my first day with your Mother, Lorrill? Tina: Ah yes, my Mother. The driving force behind this Motel. Not like that pathetic Bates. Alison: Of course, us talking of that time is strictly forbidden. "The Dark Time", or so Alden calls it. Only Dai, Marcus, You and I were around then. Tina: One day I'll get back what is rightfully mine. The whole of this Motel, just as Mother would have wanted it. Alison: How is Alden? Tina: Eh? Alison: You know, after the accident last week? Tina: Oh, he's lost his memory. They locked him up in a hospital. He doesn't even know who he is! [Tina sniggers] Alison: And why haven't we seen anything of Marcus? Tina: Oh, he went on a small trip on his boat [she sniggers again]. Alison: So at least you are in charge now. Tina: For the time being. I'll be able to run this Motel as I see fit. [There is a knock on the door.] Tina: Enter. [Chuck walks in. He has an arm in plaster and is dressed in casual clothes.] Chuck: I've just come in to say that the doctor says I cannot come back to work for a few days yet. Tina: Oh dear, how sad, GET OUT! [Chuck retreats and shuts the door] Alison: Why are you upset with him? Tina: Let's just say that he can never finish a job properly. [Meanwhile in a hospital ward Alden is lying in bed asleep. A tall blonde woman is sitting by the bed. Alden stirs] Alden: Oh my head! Woman: Does your head hurt my dear? Alden: Who are you? Who am I? Where am I? Woman: Alden, I'm your wife. Alden: You are? How do I know that I'm not my wife and you're not Alden? Woman: But I'm Suki, I'm your wife. Look. [Suki hands Alden some papers] Alden: Well, as long as I am Alden Bates then these papers seem to confirm that you are my wife. Suki: Indeed. And I own half of everything you own. It's only fair. Alden: Who am I again? [Back in the Motel Alison leaves Tina's office and walks over to the reception desk.] Alison: Ho hum, another boring day. [The main doors open. In walks a very annoyed and untidy Marcus] Alison: Bad hair day? Marcus: Bad hair day! I've been stuck out at sea for two weeks! Alison: Tina said you had gone on a trip on your boat. Marcus: A trip! Somebody sabotagued my boat. On top of that somebody tried to blow me up! Alison: So, an average holiday then. Marcus: Don't talk to me about holiday. Thats what I need at the moment. I'm sick of this place and all it entails. [Tina's voice suddenly comes from the intercom] Tina: Well, if you feel like that then perhaps it's time for a talk. Come to my office. [Marcus walks over to Tina's office door and enters] Tina: I have a proposal. Sit down [Marcus sits down] Marcus: I know you were involved with that bomb. Tina: Listen, how would you like to still have your shares in the Motel, but have somebody else take care of Alden? Marcus: Go on, I'm interested. Tina: Well I've an idea that Alden may have hit a problem with his share of the Motel. If I'm right then if you give me control of your shares then I will become the Managing Director of the Motel. Marcus: Why don't you give me control of your shares and then I can be MD. Tina: Because you need the money that I can give you. Besides, with my offer you keep ownership of your shares, it's just all you have to do is effectivly vote as I do at board meetings. Marcus: So that will remove all the Alden related problems. Tina: I'm sure you will find me a much more amicable MD. [pause] Marcus: When do you plan to put this into operation? Tina: Well, I must know one way or another before the Annual General Meeting. Marcus: Thats next week! Tina: Don't worry. Everything should fall into place.. Are you going to visit Alden? Marcus: Yes, I am going once I've tidied myself up. Tina: Excellent. Remember, keep an eye out for the past. Marcus: What? [Outside Chuck is sitting by the swimming pool. Dai walks over] Dai: You feeling better yet boyo? Chuck: Oh the arm? Well the cast will be off soon. Dai: Thats good. I'd better get on with tidying up the poolside area. [Chuck gets up and walks off. Dai walks over to a sunbed and proceeds to fold it down. He gets his arm trapped in it] Dai: Arrgghhh, it's eating me alive! [Dai struggles as more of him gets trapped by the sunbed. This continues until only his legs remain free] [Back in the Motel an elderly man has fallen asleep in reception. Dave and Large have been called to deal] Dave: Do you think we should move him? Alison: He's a guest. Just wake him. Dave: What's his name? Alison: Father Canon Rob Straddling, according to the guest register. Dave: Hmm, he smells of drink. Large: What's in this glass?....[Large takes a sniff] Yuck! Floor polish! He's be drinking floor polish! [Dave begins shaking Father Canon Straddling to try and wake him] [Tina enters] Tina: No don't do that!!!! [Father Canon Straddling wakes] Father Rob: I'M A HAPPY CAMPER! Dave: Er, hello. You just fell asleep in reception and.. Father Rob: DRINK! Dave: Drink? Father Rob: DRINK! Tina: I think he wants the bar. [Suddenly a sun lounger with legs clatters in through the main doors. It is Dai.] Dai: Miss Alison! Help me out of this thing. [Alison runs over and begins to assist. Father Rob looks on. He then struggles to his feet and staggers over to Dai. As Dai stuggles free Father Rob begins to go red with rage] Dai: Thank you Miss Alison. [Dai looks at Father Rob]. Oh no.... oh no! It's.... Its you! [Suddenly Father Rob lunges at Dai. Dai runs out of the way] Alison: [looking at her watch and pretending to sound surprised: Oh look, it's opening time! [Father Rob swings around to face the direction of the bar] Father Rob: DRINK! [He staggers off into the bar mumbling, spluttering and shouting] [At the Hospital Marcus enters Aldens room] Suki: Hello Marcus. [Marcus looks puzzled] Marcus: Who are you? Suki: Ha ha ha. Marcus: Who are you? Suki: I'm Aldens wife. Marcus: Oh no, not another one. [pause] Alden: Well aren't you going to ask how I am? [cut to a picture of the outside of the Motel. Thunderclouds are looming large above the Motel. A streak of lightening lights up the sky.] [Inside the Motel in reception] Dave: Hmm, those storm clouds are very close. I think I will go and investigate. Tina: Well take Large with you then. [Dave leaves reception] Tina: Dai, why was that guest so upset with you? Dai: [looking shifty] I don't know what you mean. Alison: Look, you know you can tell us. Dai: But Miss Alison, I don't know anything. Tina: You'd better get back to work Dai. [Dai shuffles off] Alison: I know him, he's hiding something. Tina: I don't know what's going on, but I intend to find out. [Tina walks out of reception.] [Meanwhile Dave has just walked out onto the roof. Large is with him. Around them the rain is coming down and the wind is blowing] Dave: Yuck, it's horrible out here. Large: I don't see the point of this. Dave: There's something wrong, I just know it. [Large looks around] Large: What's that up there? Dave: It looks like a large metal pointy thing. [Dave walks over] Large: It might not be a good idea to get near it in this storm. [Dave walks over to examine it. A bolt of lightening lights up the sky] Large: That was close! Dave: Look at this. It looks like Aidan's handiwork. There's some wires here as well. They appear to lead down to Alden's study.. And look at this. [Suddenly a bolt of lightening appears to hit Dave. There is a massive bang and Aidans conductor appears to light up. Manic laughing can be heard from within the Motel building.] Large: Dave? Dave? Where are you? ARRGGHHH!!!!! [Theme tune fades in]
