From: Daniel Ben-Zvi Subject: ADRICS 2000 - Best Author Award! Date: Thursday, 11 May 2000 16:12 (The crowd watches intently as Benjamin Elliott walks offstage with the Adric that he has just accepted on David McIntee's behalf. The Adrics seem to be moving at a nice clip, everything seems to be going well. The next presenter will be along shortly.) (And nothing happens.) (People start murmuring.) (Still nothing happens.) (People are *still* murmuring, now even louder than before.) (Suddenly, in a puff of blue smoke, a form appears on stage. A gentleman, on the tall side, slightly....well, let's be polite and say "big", wearing a tuxedo which makes him look rather astonishingly presentable. In his right hand, he's holding a small white envelope bound with a red wax seal. The Adric itself rests firmly in his left hand. Ruining the effect of the tuxedo, somewhat, is a a large metal object with a horn shaped attachment which hangs around his neck by a metal chain. The gentleman walks up to the podium and begins to speak into the microphone.) Daniel Ben-Zvi (for it is he): My apologies, everyone. I'm sorry I'm a little late in getting here, so I'll just...... (No one's paying attention. Everyone's still talking amongst themselves. Loudly.) (Instead of shouting, Daniel simply removes the object from around his neck and places it next to the microphone. And presses the button on it.) (The resultant booming noise from the foghorn shuts the crowd up *right* quick.) DBZ: As I was saying...I'll just get straight to the award, shall we. I'm here to present the award for Best Author. Kudos to the following folks who all obtained honorable mentions: Rebecca McLaughlin Paul Gadzikowski...funny gent, Paul, I really do like his cartoon work. Helen Fayle...my editor for two years running, can't say enough good things about her. Graham Woodland K. Michael Woodcox In the second runner-up position, we have a tie. The truly wonderful Susannah Tiller and the equally nifty, I'm sure, Clive May. In first runner-up position, we also have a tie. Sharing this honor is that noted Third Doctor fan, Jeri Massi, and noted TTR/TDF author Douglas B. Killings. And where one member of the TTR/TDF collective goes, can another be far behind? The Adric for Best Author goes to: Bradley K. Willis. Congratulations, Bradley. Now, if y'all will excuse me, I really must be going. (And with another puff of blue smoke and a loud BAMF!, Daniel is gone. Only the Adric and envelope remain on the podium.) Dan Ben-Zvi
